Our family team is well established in the North East, with practitioners routinely appearing  in courts throughout the region.

Chambers regularly deals with care proceedings, whether for the Local Authority, parents, Guardians or Intervenors. We have an excellent working knowledge of the local protocols and procedures and understand the complex needs of families coping with the care system.

Members of our team also regularly deal with children and financial remedy applications following family breakdown. Our members have a reputation for understanding that these are situations where emotions are high and clients need support to guide them through the system as well as the legal expertise which we bring to all cases.

Members of the team also regularly advise couples who have cohabited on their rights following separation, particularly in relation to Trusts of Land Act applications.

Various members of the team have also developed a reputation in more specialist areas such as relocation to other countries, recovery of children who have been removed overseas, international maintenance or overseas adoptions. Some members of the team are approved for Direct Access and can accept instructions directly from members of the public in any or all of the above areas.

Our commitment to helping families find the best outcome for them is demonstrated by members of the family team founding Fountain Mediation Limited and offering both private and publicly funded mediation through that service.

We organise regular seminars to share our knowledge and experience with our colleagues in the family justice system. If there are particular topics which you would like us to cover we are happy to consider requests/suggestions.

If you would like any further information about our family team generally or to decide who can best help you with a particular case please contact Frank Hughes  or Luke Martin on 01642 804040.
