The Regulatory and Criminal Litigation group practices in the following areas of law:

Regulatory, Healthcare & Professional Discipline

Members of the team provide advice and representation in relation to proceedings before the following tribunals:

The General Medical Council (GMC), the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC), the General Dental Council (GDC), the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), the General Teaching Counsel (GTC), the General Social Care Council (GSCC) (as was, now part of the HCPC), Police Disciplinary Tribunals, Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal, the Security Industry Authority (SIA)

Courts Martial, First and Second Tier tribunals, The High Court

Members of the group are also regularly instructed to represent individuals and organisations that are subjected to Independent Police Complaints Commission investigations, ranging from road traffic accidents following police pursuits to one of the largest investigations ever undertaken by the IPCC, the Raoul Moat case.

Education

Fountain Chambers believes that the right to a good education is a fundamental human right and we have a specialist team willing to assist in the legal issues arising in this area. Members of this group are regularly instructed to advise and represent parents, schools and education authorities.

Our specialist team offers advice and representation in relation to admission decisions/appeals and pupil exclusion decisions. These decisions can be critical to a child’s development and we believe that our team can assist in addressing these issues properly.

We  also advise and represent in cases concerning discrimination and harassment on the grounds of religion, sex, race and disability in the educational environment.

Health and Safety Law

Members of this group advise and represent individuals, companies and government departments in respect of issues arising under health and safety legislation. In order to meet client demand in this burgeoning area of law, members of the group are currently organising seminars, to be presented to specialist firms of solicitors and local high profile companies.

Consumer Protection and Product liability

Members of the group are regularly instructed to prosecute by Local Authorities throughout the North of England. We assist and advise from the inception of an investigation and conduct all court hearings up to and including confiscation proceedings post sentence.

Members also represent companies and/or individuals who face prosecution in relation to alleged breaches of consumer protection legislation.

Criminal Litigation

Fountain Chambers has established the reputation as being the ‘chambers of choice’ when it comes to serious and complex crime. We accept instructions from the prosecution authorities and defence solicitors.

Members of this group recently prosecuted the largest ‘cash for crash’ fraud case (70 defendants) in the UK.

Members of Fountain Chambers have been instructed in many notorious cases such as the Baby ‘P’ murder, the Stephen Lawrence case, the Dale Cregan & others case.

Chambers welcomes instructions in relation to bribery and anti corruption offences as well as financial and corporate crime.
