Kathryn became a full tenant in September 2025 and is a Grade 1 prosecutor. She accepts instructions to prosecute and defend in criminal matters in both the Magistrate Court and Crown Court.
Following successful completion of her pupillage, Kathryn has gained experience in dealing with a wide range of criminal matters including dishonesty, drug offences including supply into a prison, driving matters, violence and offences including indecent images of children.
Kathryn also regularly deals with appeals from the Magistrates Court, including appeals against sentence and conviction. Of note, Kathryn recently represented the appellant who was appealing their sentence for several offences of theft. After concise submissions and reference to the guidance on totality, Kathryn successfully persuaded the court to reduce the appellants sentence by a half.
Kathryn also prosecutes on behalf of local authorities for matters including fraud and environmental related offending. In addition, Kathryn has had experience both prosecuting and defending in civil applications including contesting the application for a Sexual Risk Order and applying for a Stalking Protection Order on behalf of the police.
Under the supervision of her pupil supervisor, Philip Morley, Kathryn has benefitted from observing the running of RASSO trials and has a keen awareness of ABE evidence and the required preliminary hearings, including ground rules hearings. She was also present during conferences with defendants and has also observed the handling of vulnerable witnesses, including child rape victims.
Before pupillage, Kathryn worked as a medical negligence Paralegal in Sheffield where she gained valuable experience handling a wide range of clients and drafting legal documents.
Kathryn completed her undergraduate law degree at Durham University. In addition to her practice, Kathryn has attended events with Durham University Women in Law society where she has given advice and guidance to students looking at a career at the Bar.
