Christopher started his second-six of pupillage on 11 April 2022. He takes instructions in all areas of criminal law, and some civil and immigration matters. He is a CPS Grade 1 prosecutor.
Before joining Fountain Chambers, Christopher worked for Leeds City Council where he conducted over 200 Antisocial Behaviour cases and over 700 prosecutions as a full fee earner and advocate in the Magistrates court. His Magistrates court experience includes first hearings, case management hearings, trials and sentencing hearings. Christopher has extensive experience in local authority prosecutions relating to non-school attendance, Public Spaces Protection Orders, Community Protection Notices and fly-tipping. He was also responsible for the implementation of simple cautions and PACE interviews in some prosecution areas. He has prosecuted cases which have resulted in large scale fines and custody and has dealt with cases involving appeal and cases at the Crown Court, including assisting a colleague in a large health and safety prosecution following a health and safety violation resulting in death. Christopher has also advised on and assisted instructing departments to take large volume bulk cases onto the Single Justice Procedure and has significantly narrowed the evidence on large volume cases thereby helping client departments better manage and prioritise workload.
Throughout pupillage, Christopher is under the supervision of Richard Bennett, and has spent considerable time with him in the Crown Court working on a variety of cases. As well as jury trials, Christopher has observed committals for sentence, appeals in the Crown Court, lists in the Magistrates Court, and Court Martial proceedings.
