Paul Rooney recently achieved a significant outcome at Catterick Military Court, where he defended a Warrant Officer First Class charged with Actual Bodily Harm. The case involved an accusation that the Warrant Officer had caused harm to a lower-ranking officer from a different regiment during a social function.
There was a great deal at stake, as a conviction could have led to a range of severe sanctions, including imprisonment at the Military Corrective Training Centre in Colchester. Additionally, the defendant faced the possibility of a reduction in rank, which would have had substantial financial repercussions on both his salary and pension.
Over the course of the three-day trial, Mr Rooney presented the defence case in a focused and cogent manner that ultimately led to the defendant’s acquittal. The board, composed of six officers from the three-armed services and presided over by a Lieutenant Colonel, delivered a not-guilty verdict.
The Judge congratulated Mr Rooney for the way in which he conducted the case.
