Jul 13, 2020

Paul Rooney on behalf of Redcar and Cleveland Council successfully prosecuted two men, Jack Heywood and Jamie Gascoigne, who fleeced two elderly people out of almost £70,000.00.

They targeted the two victims who were vulnerable, due to their age and both having the onset of dementia. They conned them into agreeing to have unnecessary work carried out at their homes. The work they undertook was described as being incompetent and unfit for purpose and needed to be replaced.

The repairs ran into a few hundred pounds but the pair charged nearly £70,000.00.

Heywood received a two year sentence of imprisonment to run consecutive to a 8.5 year sentence he is currently serving for Assault with intent to commit robbery.

Gascoigne was sentenced to 1 year imprisonment to run consecutively to the 3 years he is currently serving for a fraud on another elderly victim.
