Helen is undertaking pupillage under the supervision of Scott Smith and will be available to accept instructions in family work from 6th April 2026.
During her first six, Helen has gained experience across a broad range of family proceedings. She has observed public and private law cases including matters before the High Court, and cases concerning complex non-accidental injuries and allegations of sexual and physical abuse. Helen has further observed proceedings involving the instruction of King’s Counsel in family and criminal courts and has been instructed to undertake noting briefs in linked criminal proceedings concerning allegations of causing or allowing serious injury to children.
Helen was called to the Bar in 2013 and developed her legal expertise through roles within the Ministry of Justice throughout London and Leeds. She returned to the North East working in a family and civil law firm, and became member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. In 2020, Helen achieved her Police Station Accreditation and was admitted as a Fellow of CILEX.
Helen has worked within two North East local authorities as part of the in-house legal team, building extensive experience in public law children work. She has represented local authorities in both care and private law proceedings, and local authority prosecutions.
